    Event description

    All sessions include fun, hands-on and interactive training activities.

    Upon completion of a day course participants will receive comprehensive course handouts and a course certificate.

    Course outline:

    • Food security training – what is true food security and how we can achieve it.

    • Food nutrition and links to good mental health and wellbeing - covering new research emerging regarding the impact of food on mental health, gut health and wellbeing

    • Seed saving – how to grow, isolate, harvest and store seeds. Session will include hands-on exercises where participants will harvest and process a range of seed types.

    • Networking and sharing opportunities across the local Houses. Will cover how Houses can work together (e.g. NHT seed bank and seed register, coordinated approaches to growing and collecting seeds, sharing of ideas, knowledge and resources)

    Trainers

    Michael Cook – Michael is a qualified horticulturist and qualified workplace trainer and assessor. He has been teaching local and international food growing skills for over 25 years.

    Sonia Cook – Sonia is a qualified teacher and workplace trainer and assessor and has qualifications in counselling, community development and mental health. Sonia coordinates and teaches accredited mental health qualifications.

    Morning tea and lunch will be included on the day
