For Disability workers: Disability and Family & Domestic Violence

Did you know that women with disability experience domestic partner violence (29%) at twice the rate of women without disability (14.4%)? (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2016)

This workshop is for workers in the disability sector. If you work in the FDV sector, please visit the event named - For FDV workers: Family & Domestic Violence and Disability.

This free three-hour workshop, facilitated by the Patricia Giles Centre for Non-Violence, is aimed at workers in the disability sector. It focuses on increasing the confidence and capacity of the sector to support positive outcomes for people with disability experiencing family and violence (FDV). 

Workshop Highlights

  • Understanding the intersection of FDV and disability
  • Recognising the unique ways people with disability experience violence
  • Increasing understanding of the challenges of disclosing experiences of FDV 
  • Learning how to respond to disclosures of violence and support safety planning as a disability worker
  • Exploring effective referral pathways and resources. 

This workshop is open to all professionals working in the disability sector including disability support workers, support coordinators, allied health professionals and more.
