What you need to know:

The stories
- Appropriate stories will be provided for you to work with. If you have a particular story you are drawn to you are welcome to bring it along.
- It is recommended that you work with one or two stories for the duration of the 8 week block and then you will be able to apply what you have learned to other stories you want to tell.
- We will be working primarily with folktales. Folktales are found in cultures around the world and offer timeless wisdom and insight into life.

The structure
- The group will be collaborative and connective. We will engage in individual, partner and group exercises to explore the world of story.
- Each session could include: story, songs, games, partner exercises, individual reflection time and more.
- As the weeks go on we will work with different practices and aspects of storytelling, each week will have a particular focus.

Attendance
- You are encouraged to come to every session as each week builds on the previous weeks. After each session an email will be sent out that outline what we did and suggested homeplay.
- Please arrive by 5.45 as we will start promptly at 6pm.

Content
- The sessions will focus on developing the art and craft of telling stories and developing your confidence as a storyteller.
- First we will focus on inhabiting the story, getting to know it as well as you know your home town. Secondly we will work on the craft of telling the story in a way that is honest, engaging and powerful.
- This includes practices for  building a repertoire of stories,  voice and dialogue, gestures and gazes, tone and rhythm, beginnings and endings and so much more

Audience
- You may want to tell stories to your friends, children, grandchildren, family, workplace, community, or to the trees on your morning walk.
- You will have the opportunity to tell stories to the group and publicly in quarterly Storytelling events.

The Mullumbimby Storytelling Group is offered For the love of stories and is a fun and supportive space to explore your love of stories. You don't have to be a performer or  a public speaker, simply somebody who loves stories!
(though you might just find that the quiet one, who longs to be heard, finds their voice through the magical world of stories)

"I enjoyed this course so much, I really felt that not only did my storytelling prowess get better, but so did my ability to speak in public in general. I feel like I've really grown in this space. It was also really fun!
" Hazel Compton

Your host:

My name is Talia and I would love to share my passion for storytelling with you.

Through storytelling I found my voice and an outlet for my creativity. I see storytelling as a way to express my vision for the world and to explore my intrigue with the mystery that is life. But more than that, I bow to the wisdom and depth of the stories. I am always listening for what they have to say.

Stories are my teachers, my clues to the past and my guideposts for living an integrated life.

I trained with the International School of Storytelling in the UK and I am excited to share what I have learned with you.

Together we will revive the lost art of storytelling in our community!

"Talia, you hold space for stories to grow and come alive. The handy hints, tools and your ability to 'coach' the story out and through is immaculately caring and at times challenging, and this is how we grow..."
 Sally Prescott
