IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Grapevine Phylloxera Biosecurity Zone
NSW Department of Primary Industries is working with our local wine growers and producers during FOOD Week, and specifically Forage, to help manage biosecurity risks, including the risk of Grape Phylloxera (Daktulosphaira vitifoliae).
Phylloxera is a devastating plant pest of grapevines in parts of New South Wales and Victoria. Once it takes hold, it can destroy entire vineyards. Fortunately, Orange is currently free from phylloxera and we need your help to stop the spread. Download the Grape Phylloxera fact sheet to learn more
Phylloxera is generally spread accidentally; with the insect hitching a ride with people on their clothing, cars or footwear after they visit infested vineyards. We may ask you to take steps to stop the spread and protect our local industries. Make sure you don't have any unwanted hitch hikers by following our advice.
The Orange Wine Region has been identified as being a high risk Phylloxera area, therefore, additional biosecurity measures must be put in place for Forage to protect our vineyards. This may include, but not limited to, chemical and water footbaths, whereby each participant at Forage will be required to stand in the footbath for a period up to 1 minute. No responsibility will be taken by F.O.O.D Week Inc for the damage of any clothing or items during this process. Learn more about the Footwear Disinfestation Protocol.
