The End of Logging in Vic? Unpacking the Truth — Forest Country Launch & Fundraiser
Event description
Please join us Friday 15 August from 7pm at the Belgrave Cameo Cinemas for an unforgettable evening of film, conversation, and community in support of the forests we love.
This special event brings together passionate advocates, citizen scientists, and environmental champions to raise funds for Warburton Environment's Federal Court case against the Department of Environment — a pivotal moment in the fight to protect Victoria’s native forests.
We are honoured to have Stacie Piper, proud Wurundjeri, Dja Dja Wurrung and Ngurai illum Wurrung woman, open the evening with a very special Welcome to Country. Stacie’s presence will ground the event in a deep connection to forest, Country, and culture — reminding us that this land holds stories, spirit, and custodianship that stretch far beyond the present moment of advocacy and action.
As part of her welcome, Stacie will share Banj ba Wollert, a powerful short documentary that speaks to the importance of possum skin drums — a cultural expression of connection, resilience, and identity.
Be among the first to see the powerful new documentary set in the very forests at the heart of this case — a moving, cinematic journey into Forest Country that will leave you inspired and informed.
Stick around for a live panel discussion featuring the filmmaker, frontline citizen scientists, and the community group taking the government to court. Hear firsthand what’s at stake — and how you can help.
Remember to collect your rewards on your way out.
It’s time to gather, learn, and take action. Let’s come together to stand for the forests — and uncover the truth about the end of logging in Victoria.

The Film- FOREST COUNTRY
Lewi Haskins- Australian Film Maker
By 2024 the Victorian government announced the end of native forest logging, only for it to continue in more insidious forms. Film maker Lewi Haskins made himself a promise that if his forest community came under the threat of logging, he would protect it the best way he knew how - through film.
Forest Country is the powerful and deeply moving result of that promise. Shot over the course of a year alongside activists, conservationists, and ecologists, the film bears witness to the ongoing destruction of native ecosystems, the death of endangered wildlife, and the growing risks to community safety.
Ticket types - we have a sliding scale and most ticket types have extra rewards, including 2 stickers (one each of Greater Glider and Leadbeater's Possum) or The Great Forest Book.
Thanks to our friends at Patagonia we also have some great door prizes including 2 Patagonia Fisherman's Rolled Beanies and 1 fabulous Patagonia Black Hole® Pack 25L.
This event is a collaboration between Lewi Haskins, Wildlife of the Central Highlands and Warburton Environment.
We want everyone to feel welcome.
If cost is a barrier, please don’t hesitate to get in touch — we’ve set aside a number of tickets for community members experiencing financial hardship. This event is for everyone, and we’re committed to making it as accessible and inclusive as possible. Please send us a message.
A huge thank you to Cameo Cinemas Belgrave for so generously supporting the launch of Forest Country.
