Join us for a deep dive into the advancements, challenges, and innovations in the production of environmentally sustainable steel. 

Our speakers are industry leaders and environmental advocates in renewables and clean energy and will discuss methods for reducing carbon emissions in steel manufacturing.

This event will provide you with insights, forecasts and updates on the current projects happening in WA and around Australia, and the decarbonisation efforts of this critical Australian commodity.

A Q&A and panel discussion will be followed by some drinks, nibbles and networking opportunities. 

Our Speakers

Max van Someren - SuperchargeWA

Max is a member of SuperchargeWA as well as the Founder of Net Zero Network (who we are very pleased to have collaborated with on this event). SuperchargeWA’s mission is to demonstrate what can be achieved via collaboration between the private sector and government to accelerate a successful and just energy transition in WA. A key element is utilising the latest digital technology to facilitate this collaboration to show what could be achieved in today’s world.

Michael Masterman - Element Zero

Michael is the CEO and Founder of Element Zero, a Green Metal Company who have the pioneering technology to significantly reduce carbon emissions by converting metal ores to metal using renewable electricity at scale. Element Zero have recently won the prestigious BNEF Pioneer award - An annual competition that identifies game-changing technologies or innovations with potential to accelerate global decarbonisation and halt climate change.

Mike Nolan - GHD

Mike is the Executive Leader in Energy & Resources at GHD, with a specific focus on growth in critical minerals, green steel making and client management (KAM).

Nicole Wyche - WWF Australia

Nicole is the Industry Decarbonisation Manager (Steel) at WWF Australia. 
Nicole is an industry analyst, geologist, and project manager with diverse experience across the mining and exploration industry, and government and scientific research organisations in Australia and Finland. As part of WWF-Australia’s climate team working to expediate Australia’s transition to renewable energy and low-emissions industries, Nicole works with the iron ore and steel sector in the Asia-Pacific region. WWF-Australia is also developing guidelines to protect nature and equity during decarbonisation, and advocates for a fast, best and just transition.

Raj Aggarwal - Green Steel WA

Raj is a Non-executive Director at Green Steel WA - with experience in public and private proponents developing renewable energy strategy and financing large-scale projects including solar, wind, biomass and waste-to-energy, as well as complex investment/commercial analysis in the oil and gas industry.

Tom Goerke - HOSX Chair / MD of Trestle Digital

A Fellow of Engineers Australia and a leading digital transformation specialist, Tom champions the vital role of engineering in tackling Australia's digital and climate challenges. His passion extends to education, as evidenced by his recent appointment as Chair of Engineers Education Australia in January 2024. He also serves on the Engineers Australia Board and contributes his expertise as an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University and a member of the Science and Engineering Faculty Advisory Council. Furthermore, Tom Chairs the board of Hub on SX, a sustainability community hub, demonstrating his commitment to a sustainable future.
