Shabbat Dinner @ Mark and Shooshi's

Come join us for a cozy Shabbat dinner at Mark and Shooshi’s place! We'll be gathering for a nice meal and good company.

This is a standing invitation to come to any and all Shabbat dinners at our place. Dinners will run every second Friday until the end of June, when we will reassess and possibly continue. Come to however many or few you'd like! If there's capacity, bring someone along - a friend, family member, or someone you've been meaning to catch up with.

RSVP

Please RSVP by Thursday night (by securing your ticket from the button on the side) so that we can prepare for the right number of people There is limited capacity each week so make sure to secure your spot. We don’t want huge gatherings, rather opting for a more intimate atmosphere.

Shabbat

Shabbat is a weekly Jewish tradition of rest and reflection. Shabbat, for us, is about deepening our relationships with family and community. It is about connecting over some of the basic elements of human experience - food, drink, love, and light. We want to share this tradition with you - whether you're Jewish or not - and invite you to enjoy a moment of mutual restfulness and peace with others.

Food

As we both work, we would like to invite you to bring a plate to share. We will fill in the gaps but can’t cook everything. Another reason you need to let us know by Thursday night because if everyone says they are going to bring a fruit salad, we’ll contact a couple of you and ask you to bring something different. It should be easy and not too much effort. And if you don’t have the time/space to get any food together, that shouldn’t preclude you – there always seems to be enough food!

Schedule

  • 6:30-6:45 - Arrive
  • 7:00 - Shabbat blessings (in conjunction with another fortnightly shabbat dinner hosted by Kai in Melbourne)
  • 7:15 - Start eating

Looking forward to seeing you :)

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring anything?
Only your lovely self and a plate to share.

Do I need to be Jewish/Jew-curious to participate?
Nope. Shooshi is not a religious Jew but we just like the Shabbat tradition and will use it as an excuse to bring people together over some nice food.

How often will this be happening?
We'll be hosting dinners every second Friday starting 21st March until the end of June (except Good Friday)

Does this have anything to do with Zionism/Israel?
No. The Shabbat tradition existed aeons before the state of Israel as we know it today. This dinner in no way celebrates the actions of the current Israeli government, the right wing Zionist project, nor the oppression and persecution of Palestinians.
