Come with us on an adventure into the distant past!
Paleontologist and science communicator Ben Franchischelli has uncovered hundreds of scientifically valuable fossils for the state museum, exploring numerous areas across the Great Ocean Road. Ben's work uncovers ancient whales, giant sharks and bizarre looking megafauna.Ā

In his talk, Ben will uncover the paleontological secrets of the areas surrounding the 12 Apostles. From giant whales to some of the biggest sharks that ever existed, Ben will explore this prehistoric coastline and the discoveries that have changed the way we view the evolution of numerous animal groups. Ben will also be bringing fossils he has uncovered across the state for people to view.Ā Ā

Optional excursion - Coastal wanderĀ at 3.30pm:
A short fossil walk will also take place, where Ben will share some of the secrets of this dynamic coastline.Ā
Please note that we will be meeting at 3.30pm for this excursion (weather permitting). Please make your own way to the carpark and down to the beach, noting that the stairs can be steep and are slippery at times, requiring a moderate degree of fitness.Ā
