Fostering Financial Stability for People in Prison Report Launch Event
Event description
"The only consistency in prison is inconsistency." - Research Participant
Thriving Communities Partnership (TCP) and Financial Counselling Foundation (FCF) are pleased to invite you to the official Digital Launch Event of the Fostering Financial Stability for People in Prison Project on Wednesday November 30 from 11:00am - 12:30pm (AEDT)
The research shines a spotlight on how integral the essential services, including financial, telecommunications and utilities, can be in either supporting or causing additional harm for people going through the justice system.
A key pillar of the research was the voice and stories of lived experience in the corrections system to understand their experiences when attempting to manage their finances.
At the event we will:
- Officially launch the report, sharing rich insights and critical recommendations
- Hear from a panel of speakers from across the corrections ecosystem
- Explore how the rich insights and recommendations can be used to create a more equitable system that ensures people do not experience double punishment
Panel speakers include:
- Angela MacMillan, Group Customer Advocate, Commonwealth Bank
- Kim Bryant, Financial Counsellor, The Salvation Army Moneycare
- Dr Marietta Martinovic, Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Justice Studies and Australian Inside Out Prison Exchange Program Manager at RMIT University
- Pattie, Lived experience panel member at ASCO, Prison Network and RMIT’s Beyond The Stone Wall Collective

Our guiding vision for the Fostering Financial Stability for People in Prison Project is that people are able to leave prison in a financially stable position. The project builds on FCA's existing work - Double Punishment: How People in Prison Pay Twice - and seeks to understand the financial issues that impact people in prison who often exit prison in a worse financial position than when they entered.
