Event description

Join us for this Hot Topic Session presented by TasTAFE on the Foundation Skills Builder Program.

What are foundation skills? They are the skills that underpin workforce participation, and include language (oral communication), literacy (reading, writing, digital), numeracy and learning skills.

A lack of foundation skills can affect employees at all levels of your workforce, even at higher levels, where the demand for more complex skills is greater.

A review of Tasmanian industry Workplace Development Plans (located on Skills Tasmania website) listed 10 out of 17 industries identifying that they needed support with the development of foundation skills in the workplace.

We also know that “48% of Tasmanians do not have the literacy and numeracy skills they need for life in a technologically-rich world.” (26TEN, 2021).

Why is this all important?
This problem is real, and it impacts on many. It may be that someone in your workplace would benefit from building their foundation skills for a safer, more productive workplace.

With the support of 26TEN, TasTAFE are developing a training tool kit so that workplaces can understand the problem, identify it and do something about it.
This is an opportunity for you to have input into the design of the training tool kit. What will work for you and your business?

Join us and have your say and learn more about literacy in Tasmania and how we can all help.
