CANBERRA AND REGION - UNEARTHED - HERITAGE FESTIVAL 2025

FOUNDATIONS TOUR - Architectural & Social History

Australian Institute of Architects + Canberra Girls Grammar School + ACT Historic Places

Unearth the century-old heritage and enduring charm of Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS), Calthorpes House and the Australian Institute of Architects on the Foundations Tour.

Exploring the origins of architecture in the nation’s capital, the tour will commence at the Australian Institute of Architects mid-century building designed by Bryce Mortlock in 1967, with a talk provided by GML Heritage/Canberra Modern.

You will then experience the rich craftsmanship of Canberra’s oldest independent school on a fascinating tour of Canberra Girls Grammar School, featuring walkthroughs of the 1927 Inter-War Old English style Boarding House and award-winning 1985 Waterman Centre for Art & Design.

The tour will finish at ACT Historic Places Calthorpes House, a captivating property built in 1927 that remains entirely complete with its original garden, furnishings and contents virtually unchanged.

Only 20 tickets exist for this expansive tour. Your ticket includes lunch under the sweeping ceilings of the Dining Hall at the CGGS Boarding House.
