Unearth the century-old heritage and enduring charm of Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS), Calthorpes House and the Australian Institute of Architects on the Foundations Tour.
Exploring the origins of architecture in the nation’s capital, the tour will commence at the Australian Institute of Architects mid-century building designed by Bryce Mortlock in 1967, with a talk provided by GML Heritage/Canberra Modern.
You will then experience the rich craftsmanship of Canberra’s oldest independent school on a fascinating tour of Canberra Girls Grammar School, featuring walkthroughs of the 1927 Inter-War Old English style Boarding House and award-winning 1985 Waterman Centre for Art & Design.
The tour will finish at ACT Historic Places Calthorpes House, a captivating property built in 1927 that remains entirely complete with its original garden, furnishings and contents virtually unchanged.
Only 20 tickets exist for this expansive tour. Your ticket includes lunch under the sweeping ceilings of the Dining Hall at the CGGS Boarding House.

9:00 AM the tour begins at the Australian Institute of Architects (ACT Chapter), 2A Mugga Way, Red Hill.
10:15 AM the next stop of the tour will start at the heritage Boarding House of the Canberra Girls Grammar School at 48 Melbourne Avenue, Deakin (car park available - enter from Gawler Cres.)
11:45 AM - 12:45 PM Lunch break in the Canberra Girls Grammar School Boarding House dining room - Food and tea/coffee provided
1:00 PM the tour commences at Calthorpes House at 24 Mugga Way, Red Hill (small carpark and some street parking available)
2:00 PM Tour concludes
