Special Guest Speaker - Belle Lane (1983)

We are thrilled to be welcoming barrister and mediator Belle Lane (OL 1983) as our Guest Speaker.

Belle is a barrister at the Victorian Bar, practising in family law. Belle has worked in various capacities in the law, first as a legal associate, then variously as solicitor and barrister since 1993. She finds it hard to sit still and is also not a great fan of Melbourne weather and so has lived, studied and worked in Victoria, ACT, New South Wales, Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Belle also teaches mediation to family lawyers across Australia and has been voted by family lawyers in Victoria in the Doyle’s Guide for 2025, as Preeminent Mediator, Preeminent Barrister practising in parenting and children’s matters and a recommended junior barrister.

Belle had a strong desire to be a lawyer from senior school but was delayed in starting to study law due to health issues at the end of school. She has a strong commitment to social justice and has volunteered at various legal centres, mentored many young lawyers and aspiring lawyers, has been regularly involved in legal training, and undertaken significant unpaid work as a barrister, to assist people in the community.

She sounds like a goody two shoes but in reality she is just lucky that the internet and social media wasn’t around when she was younger!
