Fred Finch Home
Event description
In 1891, bereft at their son’s death and moved by the sight of boys living in horrible conditions near the docks, Captain Duncan Finch and his wife Eunice established the Fred Finch Orphanage, named for their son. They donated seven acres of rolling hills in the Dimond district to the Methodist Church for that purpose. Today Fred Finch carries on providing mental health, education, and social service programs for children, young adults and families. Join us as we walk through the neoclassical Steinfirst Building (ca. 1912), whose architect also worked on the Bay Bridge. We will look at historic photos, documents, and more from the archives and learn about the services offered on the campus and in the community. Easy; a mostly level walk
