If you’ve been dealing with fatigue, brain fog, pain, or symptoms no one can explain, you know how it goes. You finally get an appointment, run the tests, and hear, “Everything looks normal.” Maybe you’re offered a prescription for anxiety or depression, or told to come back if it gets worse.

After a while, many people start to believe that if their doctor can’t help them, no one can. They stop looking. They learn to live with feeling unwell.

Part of the problem is the message we’ve all absorbed: only doctors can really help. Everything else is “alternative,” a nice extra at best, and probably not worth your time or money.

I had the pleasure of joining Dr. Tina, a neuroscientist and medical intuitive, as a panelist on her Misfit Medicine series. She explains it this way: when a doctor says nothing more can be done, what it really means is “nothing more can be done by me.” Doctors can only use the tools they were trained in, and conventional medical training is far from comprehensive.
