The Topic: The Quiet Work of Being Present

In busy early learning environments, genuine presence with children is easily crowded out by routines, transitions and paperwork. Yet the quality of our moment-to-moment interactions is where the real work of education happens.

In this session, Kelly Goodsir explores presence as a deliberate professional practice – how educators can protect time for meaningful interactions, slow down the pace of the day, and advocate for ways of working that keep educators available to children.

It will explore:

• What genuine presence looks like in everyday interactions with children

• Protecting time for quality interactions within a full daily routine

• Slow pedagogy – why unhurried practice leads to deeper learning

• Advocating for systems and routines that protect educator presence

• Small, practical shifts you can make in your room tomorrow
