Overview

Governance 101 is an opportunity to understand the basics of governance and what it means to be a trustee.

Understanding the Role of a Trustee

Trustees are the guiding team of a For-Purpose organisation, ensuring the organisation remains true to its purpose, makes informed decisions, and uses resources wisely. Their main responsibilities include:

  • Duty of Care: Staying engaged and making well-informed decisions about the organisation's vision.
  • Duty of Loyalty: Prioritising the organisation's interests and avoiding conflicts of interest.
  • Duty of Compliance: Ensuring the organisation complies with laws and adheres to its mission.

What is Governance?

Governance refers to the framework that directs how an NFP operates. Effective governance ensures transparency, accountability, and efficiency. Key aspects include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Setting clear goals aligned with the organisation's Vision and Purpose.
  • Financial Oversight: Monitoring budgets and financial health to ensure sustainability.
  • Accountability and Transparency: Being open about decisions and operations to build stakeholder trust.

By understanding these roles and principles, trustees can effectively contribute to the success and integrity of For Profit organisations.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is ideal for:

  • New and aspiring trustees who want to understand their role.
  • Current board members looking to strengthen their governance knowledge.
  • Leaders of Pacific community organisations wanting to enhance transparency and accountability.
  • Anyone passionate about supporting For Purpose organisations and making a difference through governance.
