Do you know why it’s called the Bassendean Memorial Library?
Built on the site of the town’s first war memorial, the library holds a special place in our local history. Join us as we walk to the RSL to explore its story and visit the War Memorial. Along the way, we’ll uncover the stories behind some of the names etched in stone and reflect on how war shaped the lives of people in West Guildford / Bassendean.
Perfect for locals and visitors alike, this is a fun and engaging way to connect with the town’s past and see familiar streets from a new perspective.
-Meeting point: Entrance of Bassendean Memorial Library
-What to wear: Comfortable walking shoes, a hat and SunSmart clothing
-What to pack: A water bottle
-Please ensure you eat a good meal before this walk to keep your energy up
-Sunscreen will be provided on the day

Numbers are limited for each walk and online bookings for each walk are required using Humanitix. For assistance with bookings, contact Bassendean Memorial Library staff.
Event cancellation - in case of poor/ extreme weather or other unforeseen circumstances, participants will be contacted on details provided when booking.
Walks are wheelchair and pram friendly. Children under 16 attending a guided walk must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Participants walk at their own risk, your safety is your responsibility.
You hold the Town and its employees, servants, and agents free from all liability, causes of action, debts, claims and demands of every kind and nature whatsoever which may arise out of, or in connection with, participation in the guided walk.
In making a booking you acknowledge that you, and any other persons that you are booking for, understand and agree to the above conditions.

- Will there be other walks throughout the year?
Yes, we are planning a full schedule of walks around various parts of Bassendean, Ashfield and Eden Hill throughout the year.
- What should I do if I can no longer attend the walk?
Please either cancel your ticket online, or phone the library staff who can assist you with this. These walks are incredibly popular and always have a long waitlist. By notifying us if you are not able to make it (even if you are phoning up on the morning of), you are giving someone else the chance to attend!
- Will there be weekend walks?
There will be several weekend walks available throughout the year, please keep an eye on our socials for upcoming walks on Saturday mornings.
- Will there be opportunities to share our own stories of the places we love along the walks?
YES- our volunteers are always incredibly interested in hearing people's stories, and appreciate when walkers share their memories and history with the group.
- Will there be bathroom breaks along the way?
There may not always be toilets along the way during these walks, so please ensure that you use the restroom beforehand.
