Have you ever heard the word : microcontroller?
If you haven't its time you get familiar with with it. Microcontrollers are small cheap programmable computers the size of a finger nail and there are more of them in the world then there are people !
Microcontrollers operate all you home appliances, there are dozens in a new car, traffic lights, they operate robots and drones. They have been around since the 70's but are considered the technology of the future with the arrival of 5G and the Internet of Things which is just a collection of microcontrollers talking to each other and making decisions..
In this workshop you will program a microcontroller called a micro:bit, to create games like cookie clickers and the magic 8 ball as well as exercise gadgets that train your balance and reaction time. Programming the micro:bit is easier than you think, all you will need is a computer with an internet browser. (a physical micro:bit is optional but handy.
This workshop is based on a book I co-authored with Nathan Alison, it is now published free by Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria here:
