This session will explore how large mechanical forces arise during high-current events such as motor starting, sudden short circuits, and out-of-phase synchronisation, leading to insulation cracking, loosening, and failure. We will examine the role of endwinding bracing systems in preventing excessive coil movement and discuss how inadequate bracing can result in insulation wear, groundwall damage, and permanent deformation of stator bars.

This webinar will also provide insights into historical challenges with early "hard" insulation systems and how modern designs, utilising conformable packing materials and improved structural reinforcements, have significantly reduced mechanical shock issues.
