The Freedom Trap: How to Choose What Actually Deserves Your Attention
Description
The hardest thing about running your own business isn't the work. It's deciding what to work on.
You have a full week, a long list, and real capability. And still, you're not sure where to start. Or you know exactly what matters, and you keep doing everything else first.
This is not burnout, and it isn't a wrong business model. It's a decision problem. Before you were a business owner, something else probably filtered your priorities for you (a manager, a plan, a role description, or even someone else's expectations). Now you are the one who decides, and everything on the list feels equally urgent.
For many people in this community, that happened twice: once when you went into business for yourself, and again when you chose to build it in a new country. The networks and norms you'd have leaned on at home don't always transfer. So nobody taught you to choose using your own criteria, because until now something else did it for you.

What we do together
Name the pattern. We put a name to what you've been experiencing, and take the guilt out of it. This is a predictable gap, not a personal failure.
Build your filter. You work through three questions. What is genuinely pulling your energy right now, not what you think should be? If you chose with your own criteria, not urgency, guilt, the loudest client or the most visible competitor, what would you choose? And what would you consciously set aside, knowing it will still be there when the time is right?
Make a real decision. In a guided exercise, you choose one initiative that deserves your focus over the next two weeks, and you name what you are setting aside. A few people say their choice out loud or type it in the chat. Hearing other business owners do it matters.
Have your current list of initiatives or to-dos open, so you work on a real decision.
This is a facilitated session, not a lecture. Sofía guides the inquiry, and you do the thinking.
What you leave with
A name for the pattern you've been in
A simple decision filter you can use the next time the list is full
One initiative for the next two weeks, chosen on your own criteria before you leave the call
The experience of having made a real decision in the session, not a hypothetical one
Who this is for
Business owners at any stage, whether you opened your doors last year or have run your business for a decade. The session is open to everyone: women and men, members of The Latin Directory and the wider community. A restaurant, an accounting firm and a coaching practice all face the same question.
About your facilitator
Sofía Silva Berenguer is a decision facilitator originally from Uruguay, based on the Gold Coast. She spent years in a technical career before moving into product and program management and studying ontological coaching. She now helps people replace inherited ways of deciding with their own. She believes the biggest source of waste is not inefficiency but the failure to decide.
Presented with The Latin Directory.
