Event description

Freshers’ Fair Day 3 (Non-Academic Societies)
Quiet Hour

What is Quiet Hour?

We recognise that the Freshers’ Fair environment might not suit everyone and isn’t equally accessible to all students. To help offer a more inclusive experience for all, 10.30am – 11.30am will be a designated Quiet Hour on each day of the Freshers’ Fair.

During Quiet Hour, there will be fewer people inside the Fair and there won't be any amplified music or sound. The normal ceiling lights will be on and there won't be any flashing or coloured light effects.

The aim of Quiet Hour is to offer a welcoming space for students who need a less noisy, less busy opportunity to make the most of the Fair. This includes students who might use mobility aids, those with hearing or vision loss, anyone who is sensitive to flashing lights or sound, and those who find large crowds more difficult to deal with. This list is not exhaustive, and you will never be asked to disclose why you’d prefer to come along to Quiet Hour.

Coming to Quiet Hour

Please register for your free ticket below and make sure to bring your student ID card with you on the day. Door staff will be managing the flow of people when you arrive and may ask to see your student ID.

On the day, you can arrive at any time between 10.30am and 11.30am. You can come by yourself or with other people. We may ask you to wait for a few minutes before entering if lots of people arrive at the same time.

Please enter the Fair from the back of the SU building. To reach the Fair entrance, go down the outside of the building along Elmwood Avenue. Turn right at the end of the building. There will be arrows and signs to guide you to the back doors.

Once inside, there will be a one-way system for you to follow through the Mandela Hall. When you leave the Mandela Hall, the one-way system ends and you can move in any direction.

Please do not come in the front entrance of the building, as you will not be able to enter the Fair from this side.

At 11.30am, Quiet Hour will end and the doors will be opened for other people to enter. Music and lighting effects may begin from 11.30am onwards.

If you have any questions or any issues completing this form, please email Alice on alice.devlin@qub.ac.uk.
