WS1 - Solder, Detect, Listen: Build Your Own EMF Explorer
Description
Instructed by: Darcy “@Drc3p0” Neal
Level of Difficulty: Beginner
Abstract:
Abstract: Every electronic object around you is leaking electromagnetic energy you can't see or hear. In this hands-on workshop, you'll build your own EMF Explorer from bare PCB to working hardware.
Each build stage is paired with a deep dive of the design: the voltage divider powering your board, the op-amp gain stages amplifying faint EMF signals into audible sound, and how the board was modified to include custom designs in the PCB fab layers. By the end, you'll walk out with a functional EMF listening device, real soldering skills you can use anywhere, and a new way of hearing the invisible electrical activity of every device on the con floor.
Kit purchase strongly recommended at signup: EMF Explorer kits are must be purchased in advance. A link to purchase the kit will be sent to all registered students.
Prerequisites: None. This workshop is built for absolute beginners and serves as a gateway to electronic theory, PCB design, RF technology, and soldering.
VMs: No
Requirements: A soldering iron and EMF build kit are provided to every attendee who has purchased an EMF Explorer badge. Purchasing in advance is highly recommended, since kit quantities are limited and cannot be sold at the door.
