Event description

Nature Conservation Margaret River Region launches an exciting new initiative aimed at caring for the Margaret River, with a packed 12-month calendar of events to inspire and educate locals about the iconic waterway.

The Friends of Wooditjup Bilya (Margaret River) program kicks off on October 5th and will feature a guided fauna walk from fauna expert Dr. Boyd Wykes, followed by hands on conservation work at Ashton St River Reserve.

Following on from a career in ornithology, environmental management and education, in his retirement Boyd is enjoying revealing the secrets of a hitherto unexpected population of SW WA’s little known Masked Owl in Margaret River.  Join us as Boyd shares a wealth of experience and knowledge in the weird and wonderful creatures that call the Wooditjup Bilya home.

After the walk, join us for the work! Formerly a degraded part of the foreshore, Ashton River Reserve is well on the way towards regenerating into vital riparian habitat with significant ecological restoration work works being done over the past few years.  And it needs your help! Join us as we water, weed, and maintain revegetation site, over one hectare of riparian foreshore habitat. Be part of the restoration!

Want to join us?

Meet at the start of the walking track, alongside 108 Ashton Street at 9:30am.
