Discover Adelaide Botanic Garden as the ultimate outdoor classroom! With authentic learning opportunities and curriculum connections across Science, HASS, Geography, STEM, the Arts, and Sustainability, this PD will guide you through connecting learning at the Botanic Garden back to the classroom.

Join us for a day out in nature and be guided by our expert Botanical Educators through three hands-on workshops and explore Adelaide Botanic Garden as your students would.

Be a learner for the day as you:

  • Explore how plants have evolved to live in extreme biomes on our most popular program, Plant Adaptations

  • Investigate the Grey-headed Flying-fox colony as an urban ecologist in our new program, Flying-fox Fieldwork

  • Slow down, reconnect and get creative as you explore being a Budding Artist

These programs are designed to engage and excite from Years 4 to 9 however you’ll have dedicated time to align these experiences directly to your curriculum outcomes with our Education team’s support. Confidently take your learning straight back to your classroom and walk away with practical, ready-to-use ideas.

Aligned with: HASS, Geography, Science, STEM, Creative Arts & Sustainability. Please note that these programs align most strongly with Year 4 – 9.

Adelaide Botanic Garden is wheelchair accessible from all entrance gates except for the Hackney Gate off Hackney Road due to its gradient.

The Garden has paved and bitumen paths running throughout the Garden.  There are some areas that have gravel or sawdust pathways. Most of the Garden is flat, though there are some steep pathways leading to the Sunken Garden and Threatened Seed Orchard.

    Buildings
The Goodman Building has wheelchair access via the front entrance, opened by request during workshops.

The Museum of Economic Botany has wheelchair access and is a quiet space.

The Bicentennial Conservatory has two pathways, one at ground level which is slightly undulating, and a raised boardwalk that weaves through the tree canopy.

    Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome in the Garden.

    Food and drink
Evergreen Deli, Botanic Lodge and Restaurant Botanic all have ramp access.
