From Hobart to the Met
Dr Llewellyn Negrin Presents:
Dr Llewellyn Negrin has, like most of us, been very familiar with the Met Gala as the glittering annual event held to raise funds for the running of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, little did she imagine that she would become intimately involved with its latest exhibition Costume Art.
Costume Art opened on May 4th this year in the brand-new gallery space at the Met! In this talk Dr Negrin recounts how, she became involved in this exhibition, as well as taking you on a guided tour of the show.

Biographies
Dr Llewellyn Negrin
Dr. Llewellyn Negrin was Head of Art and Design Theory at the School of Art, University of Tasmania and taught there from 1989 to 2017 including units on Fashioning the Body, Imaging the Body and Postmodernism and Visual Culture. Since then, she has been an Adjunct Senior Researcher at the School of Creative and Performing Arts, University of Tasmania, during which time she has supervised a number of master's and PhD candidates. She has published widely in the areas of theories of fashion and the body in international journals such as Body & Society; Theory, Culture & Society; Feminist Theory; the European Journal of Cultural Studies and Critical Studies in Fashion and Beauty, as well as in various edited collections on fashion theory including Thinking through Fashion and Fashion and Art. In 2008 she published a book Appearance and Identity: Fashioning the Body in Postmodernity, New York: Palgrave Macmillan. Since 2019 she has also curated a number of exhibitions including: Nature as Artifice at Narryna Heritage Museum and Puncturing the Mask of Civility at Runnymede Historic House.
