From Knowledge to Action: Reimagining Biodiversity in Australia - AlterCOP 30 Day 3
Event description
Co-founded by The Matcha Initiative and The Transmutation Principle, AlterCOP Summits aim to keep corporate and the public informed of COP proceedings and outcomes, facilitate discourse and knowledge learning on corporate sustainability in a localised context, foster collaboration among various actors (professionals, academics, youth, NPOs, community groups, and policymakers) and inspire action.
As Australia prepares to potentially host COP31, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to open up climate dialogue to all and show that local actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change are already happening across different communities.
Running alongside the United Nations (UN) COP30 agenda, the four-day event will foster grassroots ownership of global climate goals while amplifying local and regional engagement across Australia.

Join us in Brisbane for Day 3 of AlterCOP 30 Australia – Biodiversity, Bioeconomy & Nature-Based Soluntions
Day 3 explores the intersection of biodiversity and the economy, focusing on the following key areas:
Nature as Economic Infrastructure – How healthy ecosystems support resilient economies.
Regenerative Models – Shifting from extractive to circular and nature-positive practices.
Community Leadership – Empowering local and citizen-led action to restore balance with nature.
New Measures of Prosperity – Valuing wellbeing, biodiversity, and natural capital.
First Nations Knowledge – Honouring Indigenous stewardship for long-term sustainability.
From knowledge to action: Reimagining Biodiversity in Australia.
We will begin with a keynote address by Dr Michelle Ward from Griffith University on the state of biodiversity in Australia—offering a powerful invitation to reflect, connect, and act.
Next, take part in the Biodiversity Collage, a fun and interactive workshop based on the latest IPBES science. Together, we’ll explore the intricate web of life that underpins our economies, cultures, and communities — and how it is being disrupted. Participants will uncover the drivers of biodiversity loss, connect them to economic systems, and imagine new pathways for regeneration. This collective experience is designed to shift perspectives and inspire meaningful action.
The session will conclude with a panel discussion on building a nature-positive economy in Australia, turning insights into tangible solutions.
