From Leading To Cheerleading - Building The Sustainability Tent
Description
All of a sudden we're not alone. The challenges of seeking acceptance, recognition and permission to not only participate in but to inform and even make decisions within our everyday organisational contexts is now the purview of sustainability professionals. Now though, we deal with a different and in some ways more challenging set of problems - building the confidence, capability and credentials of the myriad colleagues who now need to understand and engage meaningfully with sustainability decision making.
Through this lies immense opportunity though. The Utopian Landscape of embedding and integrating sustainability right through an organisation requires a robust foundation of knowledge in other people who’s titles don’t include sustainability and the supporting practices they undertake daily. How to do this? Engagement, educating and enabling others is part science and part art, and how this occurs will always differ across organisations and cultures. Underneath this lies principles of trust, surrender and humility - we cannot do the change we seek alone, and inviting others to help is a necessity, not an option.
To explore this, Rory Martin (VP for Group Sustainability at Frasers Property) will share his insights and experiences to help set the scene for how all of us can share and contribute our own stories and lessons.
Sadly, my partners in event novelty and entertainment Gus_tronomy won't be making the trip, but we'll still be providing you food & beverages.
