Event description

From Page to Stage: A Spoken Word Poetry Workshop

Holly McClure

A hands on, interactive workshop to learn how to write for performance and bring your poetry to life! You’ll be exposed to works of contemporary Australian spoken-word poets, guided through a writing session and then supported to bring your words to life in an inclusive and welcoming space to an audience of fellow poets. No experience necessary, come along and find your voice!

Holly is an English teacher and poet who believes that creativity is both a practice and a responsibility. She embraces writing as a process—messy, non-linear, and deeply connected to self-expression. Her poetry is speculative and conversational, woven with metaphor, wordplay, and the sheer audacity of putting feeling into language. A growing presence in the Adelaide spoken word scene, Holly has performed at Draw Your (s)Words and Mixed Bag open mics, First Fridays at the Art Gallery, as well as slam poetry events such as Summer Slam and the South Australian Poetry Slam. She has also deepened her craft through retreats with acclaimed poet Luka Lesson and Huda the Goddess engaging in the collective power of poetry as both an art form and a means of connection. Whether in the classroom or on stage, Holly is a writer, a teacher, and a firm believer in the power of words to challenge, inspire, and create meaning.
