'Vera' by Manuela Irianni

From the racial laws to Plaza de Mayo

Join the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand for an insightful L'dor V'dor presentation by Prof Giacomo Lichtner as he explores ‘Vera’ by Manuela Irianni: From the racial laws to Plaza de Mayo. Drawing on Manuela Irianni's documentary film Vera, this compelling event traces the extraordinary life journey of Vera Vigevani Jarach—from her childhood escape from fascist Italy's anti-Semitic Racial Laws to her courageous role as a Founding Mother of the Plaza de Mayo in Argentina, where she campaigned tirelessly for justice following the disappearance of her daughter during the military dictatorship. Prof Lichtner examines themes of transgenerational memory, exile, and human rights activism, demonstrating how the legacy of the Holocaust informs struggles against oppression across generations.
