From the Notes App is organised by several community members, local organisers, allies, and accomplices to help our beloved friend Mars.

About Mars

Mars Harlow is our much loved friend and community member. Mars is a Walpiri, trans, and disabled person living in Mulubinba (Newcastle) on Awabakal Land. Due to their deteriorating health and debilitating flare ups Mars has been unable to work and has been relying on mutual aid for their survival and to meet their living and medical costs.

Mars is urgently in need of significant funds to their living expenses, and so they can access the urgent and essential medical care they require, including appointments with multiple specialists, diagnostic testing, and treatment.

100% per cent of all funds raised will be donated to Mars' mutal aid fund. We have also included some ways you can help at the end of this page.

Accessibility, Inclusivity and Safety Information:

INCLUSIVITY: This is an explicitly queer and trans event and safe space. Allies are welcome and encourage to attend.

Always get consent before hugging or touching. Unwelcome behaviour will not be tolerated.

ACCESSIBILITY: The venue is wheelchair accessible. The venue is also close to public transport (bus and train).

Music and sound will be kept at a medium level, and there will be no lighting affects used.

Unfortunately due to the venue we are unable to provide quiet/sensory space, however these is an outside courtyard. Please keep in mind however we are holding this event in winter.

Use of noise cancelling headphones, fidget/stim toys, sensory items or any other accommodations you need to feel comfortable and safe in this space is encouraged.

If you have any accessibility or safety questions or concerns, please contact us! We want to ensure this event is as accessible as possible for our community.

COVID SAFETY: 1 in 3 people are disabled/immunocompromised/chronically ill and its our responsibility as a community to care for everyone and leave no one behind. Here are some things you can do, where accessible, to ensure this space is accessible to all:

  • Obtain a negative RAT test before attending
  • Wear a (preferably N95) mask whilst inside and not eating or drinking
  • Wash your hands regularly and use hand sanitiser (minimum 60% alcohol). We will also provide hand sanitiser on the night.
  • Please do not attend if you are unwell

HOW YOU CAN HELP MARS?

The best way to help is to donate directly to Mars. Even if you can only donate $1 or $5, many hands make light work. Mars' account information is available here and their Go Fund Me is available here.

We also you encourage you to share this event AND Mars' information amongst your networks. Mutual Aid is about self determination, solidarity, community care, and collective liberation.

If you are an artist, performer, poet or small business interested in donating something for this event, please get in touch.

You can also make a donation through Humanitix.

Transparency of Funds

Stripe Fees: Humanitix processes pay-outs of ticket sales 2 business days after the event has ended. Due to the urgency of Mars' situation, we have chosen to enable Stripe. By using Stripe, pay-outs of ticket sales will be processed daily, and allow us to ensure we are sending funds to Mars as soon as possible. However, Stripe does have a processing fee of 1.7% + $0.30 per card payment that we are unable to pass on to ticket buyers. Due to the urgency that funds are needed, we feel this cost is unavoidable to allow us to best support our friend.

This event takes place on the sovereign, unceeded lands of the Awabakal People in Mulubinba. We pay respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal attendees and community members. Sovereignty was never ceded. Always Was, Always Will be Aboriginal Land.
