Fulbright New Zealand Information Session 2026

The Fulbright programme was established in 1946 as an initiative of US Senator J. William Fulbright, to promote mutual understanding through educational and cultural exchanges between the US and other countries.
It operates a global exchange programme in more than 160 countries including New Zealand. In New Zealand alone we now have more than 3,700 alumni of the Fulbright programme.
We are grateful to be able to come to you and present the Fulbright programme to your students and staff and thank you for helping to promote and enable our presentation to go ahead. Please share this information through your communication channels.
The presentation will be about an hour long followed by an opportunity to ask questions. Where available we will include a presentation from recent Fulbright alumni who will talk about their experiences and answer questions. We have onsite Campus Advisors – all are Fulbright alumni – who are available year-round for any questions students may have. They will join in the presentation.
We will be presenting on the following awards. Please note these are all paid scholarships and for New Zealand citizens only.
Fulbright NZ Graduate Awards
For promising New Zealand graduate students to undertake postgraduate study or research at a US institution in any field of study.
There are three categories:
Fulbright Science and Innovation Graduate Awards
Fulbright Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Graduate Award
Fulbright NZ General Graduate Awards
These fall under two pathways:
US degree-seeking pathway (Master’s or PhD)
Visiting Student Researcher (usually part of a NZ-based PhD programme)
Scholar Awards
For NZ academics, artists or professionals
For lecturing and/or research at any US institute.
3 – 5 months duration.
Two categories:
Fulbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Scholar Award – focus on indigenous development.
Fulbright New Zealand Scholar awards
Specialist Awards
NZ host institutions apply for a US specialist for lectures, seminars, workshops or conferences.
