Join us as we explore the power of materials to express ideas. Together, we will unpack how to move with fluidity between children’s individual theories, representations, group refelctions and investigations. How can we support children's use of materials as a way to communicate, collaborate and innovate, How can they support in working together to expand our ways of knowing?

In addition we will consider:

  • How are materials used to support and uncover children’s thinking?
  • What is the role of the teacher and atelierista in facilitating the choice of materials?
  • How do we follow children’s ideas through materials?
  • What questions do we ask to support children’s processes?
  • How are materials an essential ingredient for collaboration and shared meaning-making?
  • What is the difference between an art teacher and an atelierista?
  • How do materials become the foundation for contemporary academic learning?
  • How do materials move throughout the school?
