Description

Come and join a workshop focused on how to successfully navigate the challenge of attracting research funds for co-designed research. There is an increased focus on co-design and user centred research in Medicine, as well as in a variety of other disciplines, but it can be difficult to articulate co-designed research to funders – because often the topics and form of the research are more process oriented and harder to define than research done by a scholar acting alone.

In this panel we will unpack what co-design is, and we will hear from three case studies across different topic areas – from health to climate change – talk about how they created powerful and substantial funding relationships using co-design researched.

Come along with questions, and we will explain what co-design is – so don’t feel you need to have pre-existing knowledge. If you are wanting to do research that engaged affected communities in the creation of research questions and data analysis – then this is the workshop for you!

Speakers include:

A/Prof Amanda Tattersall (Academic Lead – Real Deal on Climate Transition, Geography) - talking about philanthropic grants.

Dr Jessica Andrews, the Medical Research Future Fund Development Manager at the University of Sydney, will provide insights from the research portfolio about preparing your grant application.

Learn how to work with partners and undertake genuine co-design with practical examples from Dr Mouna Sawan and Dr Stephanie Partridge.

Gain insights from Sara Wardak’s valuable experience on grant panels, understanding the dos and don'ts when hearing from consumer representatives.

This event is organised by a multi-disciplinary team of University of Sydney researchers and professional staff passionate about co-design and community-led research. For the last two years under the name “Co-Design Working Group" we have organised events on campus to share skills and knowledge about co-design and provide spaces where people curious about co-created research can learn more. We currently run on the steam of volunteer energy - and we would love to have more!! If you are interested in getting involved please email researcher.development@sydney.edu.au.
