    Event description

Join Belinda Harrison and Georgina Banks as they discuss Georgina's book Back to Bangka and the legacy of two Cheshunt nurses - Caroline Ennis and (Georgina's great aunt) Dorothy 'Bud' Elmes - who were murdered at Bangka Island in 1942.

Members of Caroline and Bud's families will be in attendance and are kindly allowing Belinda and Georgina to read letters from the women which were sent while they were nursing and serving overseas.

The event will be a fundraiser to help raise money for busts (statues) of Caroline and Bud to be placed at Oxley. This is possible through the additional support of the Oxley Rotary Club and Everlon Bronze. During WWII, Cheshunt was part of the Oxley Shire and the girls are named on the Oxley cenotaph, hence the decision to have them placed there.

Copies of Georgina's book Back to Bangka will be available for purchase on the day or in store or online from Edgars Books & News. 20% of all sales will be donated by Edgars Books & News to the fundraiser between 1 September and 30 November 2024. Following the talk, Georgina will sign books for those interested.

If you are unable to make the event, but would like to donate, please contact secretary Jan Vincent at: jan.vincent1@bigpond.com
