Fundraiser for Caitlin: Help Support Her Battle Against Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer

We are coming together to support our dear community member and long-time volunteer, Carol Spittles, in her family's battle with cancer. Join us for an afternoon of music, with DJ Ruby Red and live performances, as we raise funds and show our love and solidarity during this challenging time.

Caitlin is not just a loving wife and mother; she is a fierce advocate for cancer patients everywhere. Diagnosed with stage 4 clear cell ovarian cancer in 2017, Caitlin has endured years of treatments, surgeries, and setbacks—all while tirelessly working to improve the lives of other cancer patients. Over the past eight years, her advocacy has changed lives, helping to secure better funding, research, and access to care for those fighting cancer, particularly through organisations like Rare Cancers Australia, ANZGOG, and Ovarian Cancer Australia. She has personally spoken to ministers and advocated for equitable access to life-saving treatments.

Despite facing immense personal challenges, Caitlin has dedicated herself to raising awareness, offering comfort to others, and founding CareFully, an organisation focused on providing compassionate care education to healthcare providers. She has helped countless people, often offering advice and support in late-night phone calls. Caitlin’s work has been vital to many—but unfortunately, it has come at a personal cost, and now Caitlin is facing her toughest battle yet.

Why We Need Your Help

Currently, Caitlin’s cancer has progressed despite all standard treatments. New, promising therapies like the immunotherapy drug combo Ipilimumab and Nivolumab, and the drug TDXD (which targets HER2 markers), are showing great results in clinical trials. However, these trials are no longer open, and Caitlin isn’t eligible for them. To access these treatments “off-label,” Caitlin faces enormous costs:

  • TDXD: $10,000 per cycle every three weeks, totalling up to $175,000 per year.
  • Ipilimumab and Nivolumab: Estimated costs of around $100,000 via a co-pay scheme.
  • Additionally, Caitlin will need genetic testing, which could incur further costs.

Having already exhausted savings, used Caitlin’s life insurance, and relied on family and friends, we now face an urgent situation. Without financial assistance, we can’t move forward with these life-saving treatments.

How You Can Help

We are asking for your support to give Caitlin the best chance at life—so she can continue advocating for others, watch her daughters grow, and continue inspiring those who are battling cancer.

Your donation will directly contribute to:

  • Covering Caitlin’s treatment costs for these promising but expensive therapies.
  • Helping with mounting medical expenses and genetic testing.

If you are unable to donate financially, sharing this fundraiser with your network can still make a huge impact. Every share brings us closer to the support we need, and every dollar donated brings us one step closer to providing Caitlin with the care she needs.

Why This Matters

Caitlin’s impact extends far beyond our family. Her work in the cancer community has brought hope, comfort, and real change. Keeping Caitlin here isn’t just about her—it's about continuing her mission to support and raise her voice for cancer patients everywhere. Caitlin is dedicated to making a difference, and we need her here to continue that important work.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity, kindness, and support during this difficult time.
