Legitimacy and transparency
A few of you have asked about the legitimacy of the above links. I (main organiser) can assure you that these are real fundraising accounts for real people in Gaza. I have had daily contact with Ahmed and Mansour for over 6 months, and have been managing the donations that get sent through to the above GoFundMes. The fundraiser organisers (Mikayla and Motaz) share all the details of all donations with me, and I confirm this with Ahmed and Mansour. I am part of a team of people in constant communication about the welfare of these boys and their families, and the status of donations coming through. Our team, made up from people from multiple countries, have been raising money for these families through their displacement, starvation, and regular hospital visits. We have full transparency of all the funds raised, and directly support the families by wiring the funds to them in through the quickest channels we have discovered how to.
Fola is a single mum who I have a lower level contact with. I have asked Fola directly her preferred method of donation, of which the above link is one way to get desperately needed funds to her and her children. All the recipients are aware of this fundraising event and are grateful and excited to see videos and receive much needed funds.
Why these families?
A few of you have asked why these families specifically? What makes these families more 'special' or 'desperate' than any other in Gaza? The truth is - there is nothing more special about these families than any other in Gaza. All families are in need and are suffering in the genocide. These families and the individuals of them, like any other, have lost family members, their homes, are living in tents in hospital yards, have been injured in bombings, have been displaced numerous times, often go hungry, have children that haven't been to school in 2 years, require expensive medication for serious conditions, and spend the majority of their days trying to secure desperately needed funds and aid to feed their families. These are families that dream of wishing for the safety, opportunities and enjoyment in life that we experience daily.
When I spoke to Ahmed he said, 'brother, if everyone in the world looked after one family, it would be better instead of a few people trying to look after more people than they can'.
I hope this provides clarity and inspiration to you to do the same.
