FUNDRAISER GIG FOR MAHDI & HIS FAMILY IN GAZA

This gig will be held on the stolen land of the Muwinina people. We pay our respects to the Palawa community, the original and continuous custodians of the Country we live and create on, and recognise their rich history and continued practice of music-making and storytelling. Sovereignty was never ceded.

“My name is Mahdi, I’m 25 years old, and I am in the sole provider for my family. Both of my parents are sick - my mother suffers from chronic rheumatism, and my father has nearly lost his sight. I am doing everything I can to get him the treatment he urgently needs. I also have a younger brother and sister who depend on me. Life has become incredibly hard, but I keep fighting every day for the sake of my family. We are struggling deeply – we are a poor family without the means to buy even medicine, food, or the basic necessities to survive in these harsh conditions. I humbly ask all kind-hearted people and organisations to please help us. We are fighting to stay alive, but we cannot do it alone.”

Mahdi’s family is one of millions fighting to survive the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Our support is critical as Palestinians are forcibly starved and blocked from accessing aid, the prices of basic necessities like food and medicine soar, and people lose their loved ones daily.

Come together through the sharing of food and music to pool funds for Mahdi’s family, so they can evacuate to safety and access & afford urgently needed medical treatment.

Υφάντρες [ifádres] is a newly formed Greek cover duo. Translating as “the weaving women,” Filareti and Constantina reinterpret rebetiko (blues) Laiko (urban folk) and traditional folk songs. Honouring and remembering their ancestors’ stories of love, loss, heartbreak, and displacement, they thread their songs across time, space, and imaginary borders. They are lucky to be joined by friends Jade (violin) and Darcy (percussion) for a handful of songs for this gig.

Claudie Joy describes themselves as an obscure musical mess, a swelling of feeling, tender and raw. Taking inspiration from storytellers they adore, such as Adrianne Lenker and Elliott Smith, Claudie brings together the crunchiest parts of indie rock and folk into the delightful mess of sincerity, honesty and obscurity that transform any space into that of an intimate lounge room concert.
