Furniture And Chair Caning Workshop For Beginners.

In this workshop, we'll teach you the original method of hand weaving rattan, used to form the seat, back rest and side panels of antique timber furniture. This workshop is a practical, hands-on approach to teaching the steps involved in completing a rattan panel. We'll show you the process from start to finish and you'll be weaving your own panel.

This introductory class is suitable for adults of all skill levels (and ages) but is aimed at beginners. The workshop includes tea, coffee, morning tea (BYO lunch) and all materials needed during the day (rattan, tools, practice frame, etc). This workshop is a prerequisite class before our optional advanced chair caning workshop.

For those who have already attended our cane weaving introductory workshop, you are encouraged to re-attend this course to improve your method OR your skills can be further developed in our advanced chair caning workshop.

Numbers for this workshop are kept small to facilitate a personalised and dynamic learning environment.
This workshop is instructed by Jason Kemmis, a passionate restorer of antique and vintage furniture.
