Wrapped Sustainably: Furoshiki
Description
What
Furoshiki is a centuries-old Japanese technique for wrapping and carrying almost anything in a single square of cloth. There's no tape, no scissors and no bin bag full of torn paper at the end. Just a few folds and knots, and a gift that looks beautiful and can be unwrapped, reused and passed on.
So what
Much gift wrap can't be recycled, and it's often used for a few seconds before it's thrown away. Furoshiki flips that. The wrapping becomes part of the gift, something the person keeps and uses again. It's also a lovely skill to have in your hands: slow, tactile and satisfying, in a season that usually feels anything but.
Now what
In a small, relaxed group of 8, you'll learn four wraps:
a classic box wrap
a bottle wrap
a book wrap
a carry-bag knot you can use every day
You'll practise on real objects, get hands-on help, and leave with the confidence to wrap anything you give.
Why attend?
This hour and a half is completely screen-free. You won't scroll, but you will make something with your hands, chat with seven other people, and walk out with a skill that saves money and waste every time you give a gift. It's a small change that looks beautiful and lasts.
What to bring: Feel free to bring a small gift or object you'd like to practise wrapping.
Who it's for: all skill levels; no crafting experience needed.
