The Stage Foundation presents

Shakti Spirit

"Shakti Spirit" – meaning strength and energy – is a thrilling multi-disciplinary cross-cultural event, raising money for Type 1 Diabetes.
Event profits are donated to Insulin for Life Australia

Performers

  • The Koalas : talented Year 4 percussionists led by Keyna Wilkins who is an Australian/British musician & composer as well as 2 times ARIA awardee.

  • Syd SibZ: two siblings who embody passion, dedication, and a love for the arts. Disciples of acclaimed violinist of Sydney Vid. Balaji Jagannathan and Mridangam maestro Nellai A. Balaji.

  • Indian-Jazz Fusion ensemble: The highlight of the evening will be the inaugural performance from Shakti Spirit, a new Indian-Jazz Fusion Ensemble. Led by award-winning improvisor and composer Sandy Evans, who has a PhD focused on Carnatic Jazz Intercultural music, Shakti Spirit promises a seamless blend of intricate melodies and rhythms that transcend cultural boundaries. Alongside Sandy Evans, trailblazing guitarist Jess Green, Indian classical vocalist Nadhamuni Gayatri Bharat and Ghatam artist Prahlad Iyer complete the ensemble. Join us for their inaugural performance together, elevating jazz and raga* to new heights. The concert also celebrates female creativity and strength through the shared joy of improvised music-making.

  • Revive & Thrive: Meena Narasiman and Anitha Gopinathan, two warriors of the historic martial art form Adimurai will present a powerful display, bringing this ancient artform back to life.

Join us for a fusion concert that represents the collective heartbeat of artists uniting for a noble cause.

Through this event, we aim to raise donations and awareness about the rising concerns surrounding type 1 diabetes in Australia. According to the Australian Institute of Health & Welfare, approximately 13,200 children and young adults aged 0–19 were living with type 1 diabetes in 2021, a number that continues to rise. For individuals with type 1 diabetes, insulin is as essential as oxygen.

Fusion is at the heart of our concert, as it embodies the spirit of collaboration and cultural exchange. Our musicians are eager to showcase not just their talents, but also to convey the importance of health advocacy through their art.

The evening promises to be a celebration of culture, creativity, and compassion, all dedicated to raising awareness for a critical health issue affecting our youth.

How can you help?

By sharing our story and the Shakti Spirit concert with your friends and family, you'll help us reach more people who can support and attend the concert. Together, we can learn more about this important issue while enjoying great entertainment!

*Raga is a melodic framework for improvisation in Indian classical music.
