Environmentalist and engineer Will Arnold is launching his book – Future Build: How Construction Can Heal Our Planet – at Regenerative Design 2026.

The first time that regenerative design has been discussed in a public-facing non-fiction book, the book’s publication marks a turning point in convincing the public that regenerative architecture is not just possible, it’s the only possibility.

It reveals how our dependence on five key materials has led to soaring carbon emissions, waste and ecological destruction from the relentless heat of cement kilns to the towering steel and concrete skeletons of our cities, and offers a bold vision for change, revealing how every stage of construction – from design to demolition – can be transformed for the better.

Through a global journey of pioneering projects and ground-breaking innovations, Future Build showcases buildings that do more than just minimise harm: they actively heal the planet. From schools built of bamboo, to concrete floors designed with plant-like efficiency and houses made from waste, a better future is not only possible, it is already being built.

Architecture Today readers can pre-order the book, which will be available from October 1st with a cover price of £20, at a discounted price of £18.

Future Build’s official book industry book launch will take place at an evening hosted by the Regenerative Architecture Index and the Useful Simple Trust on the evening of Thursday 15th October at the Building Centre in central London as part of Regenerative Design 2026.

Arnold, who is best known for his work around policy, standards and guidance related to the sustainable use of construction materials, will be joined by guest speakers

  • Katie Clemence Jackson, CEO of the UK NZCBS

  • Michael Pawlyn, co-founder of Architects Declare

  • Pippa Horton, co-founder of ReClinker (world’s first cement recycling technology)

  • Chris Wise RDI, founder of Useful Simple Trust and Expedition, gold medallist of ICE and IStructE

The event is invitation only, but a limited number of free tickets have been reserved for members of the Regenerative Architecture Index, available on a first come first served basis with numbers strictly limited to two tickets per organisation.
