Event description
Optus Future Makers is a capacity building and accelerator program that empowers social start-ups who leverage technology to address social challenges for disadvantaged and vulnerable people.
Startups have taken part in a six-month program delivered by Optus and supported by StartSomeGood.
Participants have been coached by Optus top talent and leading social entrepreneurs while dealing with drastic changes to the business environment through COVID and lockdowns.
We invite you to join us for the live stream of the final pitch event of this program.
This is a chance to learn about five inspiring impact startups and their plans to change the world.
By attending you will play a part in distributing the $10,000 audience choice award.
PITCHING:
AIBLE – Narelle Priestley
AIBLE is a mobile recruitment platform that matches people of all abilities with the right jobs improving workplace diversity and inclusion.
givvable – Frances Atkins
givvable is a data-driven technology platform that helps businesses find and track the impact of sustainable and social spending.
Maslow – Nitin Fernandez
Maslow is voice enabled assistant to support carer and rehabilitation management for young people with paralysis in their home.
Need A Tutor – Bronwyn Covill
Need A Tutor seeks to improve education standards and accessibility for those in remote locations through technology.
PeepsRide – Clive Vaz
PeepsRide enables micro-businesses to utilise spare capacity in the network of organisations to provide an on-demand transport service for those with a disability, dependents and the elderly.
The Startups will receive a total of $200,000 in awards plus $10,000 to be distributed by the audience choice vote.
Why have we created this program?
At Optus we believe that social innovation and technology can help solve the most challenging and systemic societal challenges of our time. Social innovation coupled with new technologies help us unearth and increase the pace of developing new solutions that address complex social issues, both locally and globally.
Through technology, solutions have the potential to scale faster and more efficiently. It also enables us to rethink traditional models of learning. For example, virtual reality allows us to effectively change behaviour and develop empathy by seeing the point of view of others.
Technology also has the power to make healthcare more accessible and affordable to those in remote communities. ‘Telemedicine’ services offer remote medical consultations, allowing patients to speak to healthcare professionals through electronic means. We’re also seeing how technology can help enhance the precise detection and diagnoses of diseases, which will minimise the time and costs of treating chronic conditions.
