Futures Literacy: The Hidden Skill Behind Climate Action
INFORMAZIONI SULL' EVENTO
Most of us walk around assuming time is just there. A fact. Something a clock measures the same way for everyone. It isn't. Your brain is quietly building your sense of time right now, out of attention, memory, a little bit of fear. The language you grew up speaking already decided which direction your future sits in. And somewhere along the way, without ever asking you, your culture decided how urgent tomorrow feels.
These talk and workshop digs into all of that. Why time stretches and shrinks depending on what you're feeling. How entire civilizations, from the Aztecs to the Aymara to indigenous communities in Brazil, built completely different relationships with the future than the one most of us inherited. And why our brains, and even our senses, seem to struggle so much with a crisis that seems to be unfolding slowly instead of all at once, such as the climate crisis.
Then comes the harder question. What would it actually take to think further ahead than we're wired to, and to build something that can hold up in a future we can't fully see yet?

Futures Literacy: The Hidden Skill Behind Climate Action | Carolina Cardoso, Futurist & Foresight Strategist
You think you have opinions. A sense of what is beautiful. An instinct for what is refined, rational, modern, possible. But what if those thoughts were installed? This talk moves through five centuries of a system designed to make one civilization's categories of knowledge, beauty, and power feel like nature itself, and traces how that system never ended. It simply changed infrastructure. From colonial territory into economic architecture, into design education, into aesthetic canon, into the algorithms deciding what you see, want, and conceive as real. This talk revisits the foundations of that system and asks how one worldview came to define what we recognise as rational, modern, and desirable. It traces how these assumptions moved from colonial territories into design schools, aesthetic canons, and the infrastructures that still shape perception today. Rather than offering solutions, the talk proposes a shift in awareness, inviting designers to question the invisible frameworks that structure what we believe design is, what it should do, and whose futures it serves.

Building a collective soundscape | Ana Luiza Magalhães , Communicator & Climate Storyteller
In soundscape ecology, biophony refers to the collective sounds produced by living organisms in a given environment. Listening to these sounds can tell us something about biodiversity and the changes taking place within an ecosystem. We are not always accustomed to using all our senses when thinking about the climate crisis. We often rely on a linear understanding of time and privilege what we can see. Yet sound can reveal an extraordinary amount of information about a place. It can connect us with memories from the past, help us become more attentive to the present, and allow us to imagine possible futures. As soundscape ecologist Bernie Krause says: “If an image is worth more than a thousand words, sound is worth more than a thousand images.” In this workshop, we invite you to listen differently: to train your ears, reconnect with your memories and explore the relationship between your past, present and future selves.
