Event description

Wildwood Kangaroo Valley invites you to a special hands-on workshop with Gadhungal Marring.

This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in growing edible native plants — whether you’re looking to create a thriving native garden, add to your homegrown produce, or simply deepen your connection to the land.

Together, we’ll be planting out Wildwood’s Creek Walk — with a collection of edible native trees and plants selected for their suitability to our sandy soils and their potential to be used in creative food and drink for our weddings and events. Our vision is our guests will be able to forage this walk in the future - like guests at your house could forage in the future too :)

Learn about and plant a diverse range of native edibles, including:

  • Native Thyme (Prostanthera)

  • Warrigal Greens (Tetragonia tetragonioides)

  • Native Basil (Ocimum tenuiflorum)

  • Midyim Berry (Austromyrtus dulcis)

  • Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia citriodora)

  • Cinnamon Myrtle (Backhousia myrtifolia)

  • Finger Limes (Citrus australasica)

  • River Mint (Mentha australis)

  • Old Man Saltbush (Atriplex nummularia)

  • Native Pepperberry (Tasmannia lanceolata)

  • Native Violet (Viola hederacea)

  • Illawarra Plum (Podocarpus elatus)

  • Davidson's Plum (Davidsonia pruriens)

This workshop will cover:

  • Choosing the right native plants for your garden

  • How to care for and harvest from edible natives

  • Traditional uses and cultural significance of the plants

After the demonstration, participants will join in planting out the garden. The day will finish with a delicious picnic lunch made with local bush foods.

Your ticket includes:

  • Guided workshop and demonstration with Gadhungal Marring

  • Hands-on planting experience

  • Picnic lunch in a stunning natural setting

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn from experts and take home the knowledge you need to start growing native foods in your own backyard. Gadhungal Marring is 100% Aboriginal-owned social enterprise dedicated to sharing knowledge of native plants, bush foods, and cultural connection to Country. We have a really wonderful relationship with them and know that this workshop is going to be delivered with a lot of care and planning given the amount of visits and meetings we have all had to get it right.

The video below was from another one of our workshop series - the content of the classes was different to that planned for this workshop
