Galiwinku Women's Empowerment Forum

The 2025 Galiwinku Women’s Space Forum will be held on 14–15 October, bringing together First Nations women from across the Northern Territory to share their wisdom, learnings and strength. The two-day event is particularly relevant for those who lead shelters and safe spaces for women and children across the Territory.

Established in 2012 by Yolŋu women in response to widespread family violence, Galiwinku Women’s Space (GWS) provides a community-led, culturally grounded support service for women, children and families. GWS acknowledges the importance of upholding both Yolŋu Law and Balanda Law, offering a safe, positive environment to overcome domestic and family violence.

Building on the success of previous empowerment conferences and the 2022 opening of their dedicated centre, GWS continues to inspire new initiatives, including the development of the Gapuwiyak Women's Space. The 2025 forum will showcase cultural achievements, strengthen community leadership, and deepen understanding of the vital services GWS and other similar services across the Territory provides.
