Gallie, the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, was born in Dublin, Ireland, in the seventies. Picking up the guitar in his early teens helped him navigate the streets, providing him with a wealth of material for songs and stories that he continues to draw from.
Gallie's music captivates audiences from the first note; his performance can move from a lonesome whistling entrance reminiscent of a miner in the Klondike to a wild folk guitar crescendo, complemented by his gorgeous baritone voice giving the grittiest performance of his life.
Over his 20-year musical career, Gallie has supported an impressive line-up of international acts including Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan, KT Tunstall, Glen Tilbrook, Squeeze, Newton Faulkner, and Glen Hansard. He has also shared the stage with eminent artists such as Santana, Chris Isaak, and Jimmy Cliff. His songwriting strength is evident, with Australian stalwart Steve Pigram recording one of Gallie’s songs, “Walking Blues,” titled “Look Away” on Gallie’s Occoquan River Album. Gallie's music has also been featured in the multi-award-winning documentary series “The Bikes of Wrath.”
Gallie has lived the true troubadour lifestyle, traveling the world and performing every type of show imaginable, from busking on the streets of Paris to sold-out shows with a 46-piece orchestra in Southern Brazil. Having now lived in Australia for 11 years, he has finally put down enough roots to record his songs.
A favorite at numerous festivals, Gallie has headlined the folk stage at the Mississippi Delta Blues Festival in Brazil and has performed at the Maldon Folk Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Portarlington Folk Festival, Little World Festival (France), Altitude Music Festival (France), Fairbridge Music Festival, Nannup Music Festival, The National Celtic Festival, Yackandandah Folk Festival, and St Albans Folk Festival.
His highly lauded debut album, "The Occoquan River," tells stories of love, war and hope showcasing Gallie's soulful performances with lyrics that can transport listeners from a civil war battle to the warm comfort of a lover's bed. Music critics have compared him to Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, and Wilco. Paul Gough of ABC Radio National praised "The Occoquan River" as "one of the outstanding releases this year," while Fiachna O’Braonain of RTE Radio 1 described it as "a beautiful piece of work that takes you on Gallie's literary journey and wraps you in the emotional truth of his music."
Gallie is about to release his new album, recorded in Nashville in February 2023 with Grammy award-winning producer Erick Jaskowiak. The album features an impressive band including musicians who have played with Robert Plant, Jack White, Hozier, Emmylou Harris, and John Prine. The first single, "All My Devils," showcases Gallie's writing skills and the musicianship of Nashville's finest session players. Following a standing ovation performance at the 2023 Port Fairy Festival, Gallie and his band are eager to tour and share this new body of work, with the album set for release in late 2024.
Gallie’s music and performances, rich with stories about growing up in Dublin, travels on the road, and loves lost and found, continue to captivate audiences. His passion for storytelling and songwriting will undoubtedly bring him to international stages, attracting listeners of all backgrounds.
