Event description

The University of Canberra (UC) and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) have a lengthy and strong partnership around sport research. Join us for our Female Performance and Health in Sport showcase where you will have the opportunity to hear from leading and up-and-coming experts from UC in women in sport research. You will also be up close and personal with former swimming Olympian and AIS Project Co-Lead for the AIS Female Performance and Health Initiative Dr Rachel Harris, and Performance Health Manager at Triathlon Australia Dr Paula Charlton. Let’s change the narrative by empowering females in sport to understand their body and how physical activity may affect their performance and health.

We will also have a poster display from our 10 industry co-funded PhD Women in Sport scholarship candidates for attendees to learn more about how our PhD candidates are helping level the playing field for sport and exercise research with and for females.

Topics will include:

  • Biomechanics
  • Coaching and athlete management
  • Training and performance
  • Managing menstrual cycles through a range of approaches and interventions (e.g., diet and training)
  • Sports analysis and data
  • Muscle and cardio-vascular-pulmonary physiology
  • Physiotherapy
  • Nutrition and diet
  • RED-S and health management for female athletes
  • Sport-specific applied research for: soccer, rugby, triathlon, sailing, swimming, and more.

This event is aimed at:

  • Amateur and professional female athletes
  • Active girls, women and their parents/carers
  • Coaches, officiates, and support staff working with female athletes
