Game Design for Facilitators
Event description
Greetings Collaboration and Facilitation Experts
Do you have an idea for a game that might make your ways of working more playful? Do you want to add something unique and engaging to your existing toolkit? This is the course for you.
At Amble we love the magic of story games, and the way this unique form of game helps people explore parts of themselves they might not even realise exist.
Creating story games is surprisingly accessible! And we’d love to help you bring this skill into your own work.
We will help you:
- Understand the power of story games and play in ‘serious’ contexts
- Get insight into tools you can use to start designing today for use in your own work
- Learn about how Amble approaches storytelling to make these games accessible while also achieving insights for your outcomes
You’ll leave with a set of digital tools to empower you to begin experimenting on your own game ideas.
In this 3 hour course we will cover:
- Types of outcomes story games can help achieve
- Existing examples that can inspire ideas
- Technologies that can help you produce a shareable game within hours
- Translating your concept into a fictional realm
- Facets of a good story game
- The importance of 'safety': both building trust and having in-game mechanisms
- Creating a satisfying experience for your players
- Using reflection to bring out insights
If you have completed this course and are ready to start building on your ideas and designing your own game, we highly recommend our follow-up course Design your own Story Game.

Your facilitators:
Logan Timmins is an applied game designer with the Amble Studio troupe, and a designer of many independent tabletop games besides.
During the last 3 years, he has released 19 games and 3 supplements. He has also successfully completed 3 crowdfunding projects for his games, with supporters all over the world. He recently won an ARPIA (Australian Role-Playing Industry Award) for his genre-establishing autobiographical role-playing game, LOGAN.
In a more qualitative sense, Logan’s games have made people laugh out loud, cry tenderly, wave at clouds, and have deep personal reflections.
Alongside his gaming development, Logan has stepped into the facilitation world. Undergoing mentoring and training to design and deliver workshops and seminars covering varied topics, Logan has lived the overlap of games and professional facilitation.
Logan will co-host this session with Amble's professional collaboration designers, combining the best of both worlds.
