Wed, 4 Nov, 7pm - 9pm NZDTDesigner of Hamilton Gardens since 1978, Dr Sergel has spent decades shaping one of New Zealand’s most internationally celebrated public gardens. Through a series of immersive themed gardens, Hamilton Gardens explores some of the major turning points in human history and the evolving ways people have viewed the world across cultures and civilisations. Based on Dr Sergel’s book of the same name, the documentary The Time Traveller’s Guide to Hamilton Gardens examines how these pivotal historical shifts gave rise to new types of gardens, from the influence of great religions and the Renaissance to the Industrial Revolution and beyond. This fascinating film offers insight into the philosophy, storytelling and extraordinary vision behind Hamilton Gardens; once the Medieval Garden is completed, 17 of the planned 28 gardens will be finished. Following the screening, Dr Sergel will share reflections on the development of Hamilton Gardens and the creative thinking behind this globally recognised project, before opening the floor to audience questions.
